    Reference checking

The descriptors of documents cited in the manuscript are called references. The reference list is an information list providing identifiable coordinates of cited information. Two general systems for formatting references exist:

    1. citation-sequence system where each reference is assigned a number that identifies the reference according to a specific number in the reference list presented at the end of the document.
Example: Catecholamines are known stimulants of parathyroid secretion [7,8,9].
    2. author-date or name-year system where the name of author(s) of each reference and the year of publication of the work are cited within parentheses in the text, as well as appearing in the reference list at the end of the document.
Example: Catecholamines are known stimulants of parathyroid secretion (Jones, 1985; Smith, 1992; Brown et al., 1996).

Irrespective of the system for citing references for a particular journal, manuscript text and reference list entries must be prepared in accordance with the requirements of the journal to which the manuscript will be submitted. Furthermore, the reference list must be accurate, providing for the reader verifiable and easily identifiable coordinates of cited literature and/or source material.

Genedits offers two services when preparing manuscripts for submission to journals in life and medical sciences.

    1. Formatting the references in the article for submission to the journal of choice in accordance with the "Instruction to Authors" of the particular journal.
    2. Checking the accuracy of each citation including the correct spelling of the names of each author(s), the full title of article, journal name in full and its MEDLINE abbreviation, year of publication, volume and page numbers
