Terms of Business
Editing
- We undertake to ensure that no manuscript edited by a member of Genedits'
staff will be rejected by a journal editor or reviewer, or by a book
reviewer, on the grounds of deficiencies in English language.
- If a manuscript that has been edited by a member of Genedits' staff
should be rejected on the grounds of deficiencies in English language,
Genedits undertakes to remove the deficiencies free of charge, provided
that (a) Genedits has access to reviewers' comments and (b) reviewers'
comments specify, in appropriate detail, the ways in which the manuscript
is deficient with respect to English language.
- Once a manuscript that has been edited by a member of Genedits' staff
has been returned to the client, Genedits will answer, as part of the
editing service, any questions that the client might have regarding
the editing until the client is satisfied with the result (within reasonable
limits, i.e. one or two e-mail exchanges).
- If, in response to a comment made by a Genedits editor, the client
revises the original text to such an extent that checking it may be
deemed to be new work for the editor, the editing of the new text will
be charged at the standard rate. This condition will usually operate
at the level of paragraphs and greater volumes of text, not at the level
of single sentences. (Please be aware that the expense of second editing/checking
is often in direct proportion to the difficulty of the original manuscript,
because difficult papers require more commenting, more revising, and
hence more new text).
- Genedits takes no responsibility for any submitted manuscript that
contains changes made by the client following the completion of editing
without prior consultation with a Genedits editor.
- In the case that a student wishes us to edit a thesis or dissertation
to be submitted for a degree, e.g. for an MSc or PhD, we require that
the student send us a copy of the university regulations concerning
thesis submission and edit strictly according to the regulations. We
do not comment on the content or logical structure of student theses.
- We do not edit either undergraduate essays to be submitted
as course work or undergraduate theses.
Assessment of logic and flow of argument
- For a work that has yet to be submitted for publication, Genedits
does not guarantee to remove all possible logical error and deficiencies
in structure. We do guarantee to make improvements to the existing work
that are consistent with the time spent on our analysis.
- For a manuscript that has already been submitted to a journal and
has reviewers' comment available, Genedits undertakes to rectify those
defects in the manuscript that have been identified by the reviewers,
provide that those defect pertain to logic and flow of argument. Genedits
takes no responsibility for the scientific content of manuscripts.
- If a manuscript that has been assessed for logic and the flow of argument
is rejected by a journal editor or reviewer, or book reviewer, on the
grounds of deficiency in the area of logic and flow of argument, Genedits
undertakes to remove the deficiencies free of charge, provided that
(a) Genedits has access to reviewers' comments, (b) reviewers' comments
specify, in appropriate detail, the ways in which the manuscript is
deficient with respect to logic and the flow of argument and (c) the
deficiencies pertain only to those portions of the text that have been
modified regarding logic and flow of argument by Genedits staff.
